College of Life Sciences
School / Directorate:

Division:
Plant Sciences
Job Category:
Academic
Closing Date:
18 May 2012
Summary:

We are seeking Principal Investigators to join the Division of Plant Sciences in The College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee (CLS/UoD) and the James Hutton Institute (JHI) in molecular plant research areas that underpin food security and bioenergy. Priority themes include plant-pathogen interactions; responses to the environment; biofuels and new products from plants; developmental biology. The positions are for up-and-coming group leaders (Lecturer) and already established, internationally recognised group leaders (Professor) and will be joint positions between the organisations.

The UoD and the JHI have a long-standing strategic partnership supported by joint appointments and studentships. Co-location of the Division of Plant Sciences on the JHI site on the outskirts of Dundee has fostered collaborations and attracted significant joint external funding. Association with CLS/UoD and JHI provides unique opportunities for connecting basic plant research with translational crop approaches to address major societal issues. It also promotes interaction with a wide community of plant scientists and provides access to state-of-the-art imaging, proteomics, metabolomics and plant growth facilities at CLS/UoD and JHI.

Plant Sciences’ strengths are in RNA biology and regulation of gene expression, plant development (focused on flowering time), molecular and cell biology of pathogen infection and disease resistance, genetic diversity in crops, recombination, and lignin biosynthesis and its modification for more efficient bioenergy production. JHI have major strengths in molecular genetics/genomics of crop species, pathogen genomics and the molecular and cell biology of plant-pathogen interactions, plant physiology and metabolism, breeding and applied genetics, plant-soil interactions and land use.

We welcome applications from candidates who have established an independent research group in molecular plant science, have an excellent track record of publications and funding and exciting research plans. Applicants will be expected to be competitive for personal fellowships and/or programme level grant support.
