Proteomics

We have a strong track record in proteomics, particularly the use of SILAC quantitative proteomics and the identification of protein phosphorylation, ubiquitylation, glycosylation, lipidation and other modifications. The College of Life Sciences Proteomics facility operates 10 mass spectrometers, including 4 Thermo Orbitrap systems, with 6 support staff. They offer a range of mass spectrometry and proteomics services for the analysis of whole proteomes, proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides, oligosaccharides and small molecules. Professor Angus Lamond (Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression) is an international expert in using SILAC technology for the quantitative analysis of proteins by mass spectrometry and Professors Julian Blow, Ron Hay and Jason Swedlow and teh MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit (who have additional systems) are also involved in major proteomics projects.
