With more than 1,000 staff and research students, representing 62 nationalities, and research funding in excess of £30 million per year, the School of Research of the College of Life Sciences enjoys a reputation as an international centre for molecular cell biology.

The College of Life Sciences provides a collegiate and supportive environment for its researchers and has been consistently voted “one of the best places for scientists and post-docs to work” by The Scientist magazine since 2006.

The College is organized into 11 research divisions and units  and expertise ranges from drug design to genetic control mechanisms. Many of our researchers have joint students and research grants, and share their expertise to help push forward the pace of scientific discovery. ‘Lateral’ and ‘vertical’ interactions within and between all our divisions and across the University are actively encouraged and 13% of publications in the past 5 years have been collaborations between two or more groups.
